At DEA, we engage with and give back to communities in multiple ways — from knowledge creation to the provision of essential supplies and services for the most vulnerable and affected groups in society. This multidimensional leadership, demonstrated through diverse programs, would not be possible without the support of our donors and key stakeholders. Learning Opportunities
Education First
Education First is a commitment to equipping individuals, especially youth and adults, with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities needed to thrive in today’s evolving world. By prioritizing accessible, inclusive, and digitally enabled learning, we tackle unemployment at its roots, empowering communities to build sustainable futures. Through initiatives like DEA Burundi’s Digital Mentorship Laboratory, education becomes a tool not only for personal growth but for economic resilience. When learners gain practical skills and entrepreneurial confidence, they become agents of change, ready to contribute meaningfully to society. This approach benefits not only individuals but also the Department of Education, which gains a stronger foundation for policy innovation and community engagement. By fostering digital literacy, collaborative learning spaces, and mentorship-driven workshops, Education First ensures that skills development is proactive, relevant, and responsive to local realities. It is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and long-term development.
Community Development Projects
Social Services
Social Services play a vital role in strengthening communities by connecting families to essential humanitarian support systems. These include food security programs, school construction, places of worship, the provision of school materials, clothing distribution, and flood rescue assistance. At DEA Burundi, community outreach initiatives go beyond education and training opportunities. Our programs help bridge the gap between underserved populations and the critical services they need most. Through accessible service delivery, we support individuals and families by sharing important information, connecting them to available programs, and fostering networks of care and community support. This approach empowers youth, adults, and local institutions, including departments focused on social development and education, to work together in addressing poverty and inequality. When families gain reliable access to food, education, training, and livelihood support, they are better equipped to thrive and contribute to long-term community resilience. Social Services are not only safety nets; they are pathways to dignity, opportunity, and sustainable development.

Due to increasing climate challenges, some communities living near the lake are threatened by lake and river overflows. DEA provides flood drainage support to reduce risks, protect livelihoods, and strengthen resilience among affected families.
This initiative is especially important for rural communities where weather conditions can be harsh. Providing an extra set of clothing not only offers protection but also helps families reduce household expenses, strengthening their resilience and dignity.
